The Knife Tool in Adobe Illustrator

Sometimes the ONLY way to break that path into the two parts you want is with the Knife Tool, and we’ll see that, and more in this Episode.

Just like an X-Acto knife, you can cut paths apart on your “light table” and you don’t even need safety goggles.

But Illustrator’s Knife Tool has functionality that an old school knife doesn’t.

Some of what you’ll see here includes:

  • Where did Adobe hide the Knife Tool
  • How to cut a path into smaller parts
  • Which Modifier Keys give you more control over your blade
  • How to cut through multiple paths
  • How to chop clip art to get what you want

Once you master this tool, you’ll want to keep it handy. It will become one you use often, I’m sure of it.
