The Type Tool in Adobe InDesign

16 min 44 sec

It’s the Type Tool. It’s used to type. I get it. Oh, well, it does a bunch of other stuff, too, and there are some times you’ll need to use it when you’d think you should use another tool. It’s a tricky one.

For beginners, the Type Tool can be especially tricky, as many want to click and type. Nope, it doesn’t work that way in InDesign. Everything must be in a container, or frame. See how to get started and the many nuances of this tool.

We’ll go over:

  • Creating your first Text Frame
  • Converting existing frames to Text Frames
  • Setting the Preferences to turn off the ability to convert frames
  • Shortcuts to work faster with the Type tool
  • Using the Type Tool with other tools like Notes
  • Using the Type Tool to edit Tables
  • and some other stuff

Don’t take it for granted that you’ve used this tool so you can skip this Episode. There are a lot of things we overlook when using it that we’ll cover here.
