When you first launch InDesign, the Home Page is a vast wasteland, making one wonder what to do next. Well, it's not as bad as Arrakis (for you Dune fans), but it is pretty empty.
But once you start using InDesign, it populates with thumbnails of recent documents, so you can launch them with a click, instead of File> Open.
But wait, there's more!
You can create new documents from Presets or with your own settings...or both.
There is room for improvement, but the Home Page is more useful than not.

So if you've ignored the Home Page and worked around it, maybe take a few minutes and see if it's worth trying out. I ignored it for ages, then learned to like it and use it regularly.
