It's happened to all of us, I'm sure: you get your photo just the way you like it, then see the colors fade away as it's converted to CMYK for print. Yep...it's the limitations of print vs RGB transmissive light.
What can be done? Well, sadly, not much. HOW much you lose is dependent upon the print specifications (paper, press, etc.).
What you can do, however, is anticipate what the limitations are and design accordingly. Using high visibility neon green on an ad that's going to run on newsprint will surely disappoint you. But if you can see in advance what's going to happen, you can plan and adjust.
This tip is about Photoshop's Gamut Warning, which does just that. But what this tip gives you is a way to create a visual showing you just which colors will print in the targeted color space. Now you'll KNOW which colors will print, and not.And it's fun for the whole family.
