Setting Up Linked File Formats

So many times I've been teaching InDesign live in a hands-on environment and showed how to Opt + Double-click on an image to quickly open it in Photoshop to edit, then save back into InDesign. Sometimes the class would just stare at their screens with a confused look on their faces.

"What's up?" I would ask, then realize their computers weren't set up for this handy little editing technique.

Breaking away from InDesign, we would teach the computers what we needed so we could get back to work. And that's what we're going to do in this Episode.

Join in as we cover the following in this Episode:

  • What is a Linked File?
  • Which photo formats matter
  • What about PDFs
  • Do I have to do this with text files, too
  • Associating Links on the Computer
  • Get Info (Mac) or Properties (Windows)
  • Set the application that opens that file format
  • What if the Format Changes?
  • How to relink an image or text
  • and more

I show this on a Mac, but it's basically the same for any Windows users, so join in as we solve this age-old problem.
